Adding Value to Program Offerings
We represent a mix of synagogue affiliations and reflect the Jewish diversity of the 23 North Shore communities we serve.
Adam Smith, Executive Director:
Adam was hired to begin as NSTI’s first Executive Director in September 2008. Previously, he spent eight years working with the teens of Temple Shir Tikva in Wayland, Massachusetts, building one of the premier youth programs in the Boston area. He has been the creative and implementing force behind informal opportunities for teens including tikkun olam projects, trips and retreats, mentoring programs and youth group activities for years.
A product of Temple Isaiah in Lexington, Adam earned a BA in psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. When he returned to the Boston area to work with the Jewish community, he continued studying Jewish educational theory at both Hebrew College and Brandeis University. Adam and his wife Jodi, who is a Reform Rabbi working at Rashi School in Dedham, currently live in Needham with their son, Noah, daughter, Tali, and dog, Tova.
Brett Lubarsky, Associate Director:
Brett will join our team as Associate Director and will oversee the launch of the new Metro-West region while supporting and infusing our North Shore program with his remarkable creativity and vision.
Previously, he spent 12 years helping to build a nationally-recognized model of youth engagement at Temple Beth Elohim in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Brett is a Birthright Israel Fellow and has worked extensively with Jewish youth and professionals at congregations and organizations throughout the country, sharing his passions for youth programming, leadership and team development, Jewish service learning, educational technology and mission-driven communications strategy.Brett was a CJP Teaching and Technology Fellow, in addition to being a reader, pilot facilitator and Fellow for Moving Traditions’ Campaign For Jewish Boys and Shevet Achim: The Brotherhood program. Brett holds a Certificate in Informal Jewish Education, Youth Leadership and Camping from Hebrew College. A lifelong camper at heart, Brett has spent his summers at URJ 6 Points Sci-Tech Academy, URJ Eisner Camp, Camp Bauercrest, NFTY in Israel, Brandeis University and with the JCC Maccabi Games.
Sarah Wood, Office and Database Manager:
Sarah joined NSTI at the beginning of 2015, after working for nearly a decade in two different non-profit youth development organizations: a community center in Beacon Hill and an outdoor and adventure education organization in the hills of Western Massachusetts. She holds a BA in Journalism, an MA in Recreation Administration and has a professional passion for making things “work better and be more fun.”
Originally from Chicago, Sarah has loved living near the ocean, learning to drop her r’s and rooting for New England teams (unless they play against Chicago teams…then, look out.) When she’s not at work, she can be found enjoying the company of her husband and daughter, who generally light up her life.
NSTI Board of Directors:
Our board is one of our greatest assets. They are tireless champions of our mission, wise counselors in times of need, and they have shaped, molded, supported and celebrated with us as we strive to serve the North Shore through NSTI.
Throughout the pilot period, board directors have done whatever is needed to make events a success, from setting up tables to transportation to myriad other critical tasks. Today, as the Foundation grant period concludes and NSTI transitions to sustainability through local support, the board also focuses on organizational capacity and fundraising. Having a board whose directors still reflect the entire Jewish community increases networking and fundraising opportunities.
