Breaking Down Barriers & Working Together
When NSTI was launched in 2008, the landscape of the North Shore for Jewish teens looked very different than it does today.
Then, there were lots of “silos,” or organizations focused on their own constituencies without regard to what their neighbors were doing. This meant a lot of great programs were advertised to just a few teens and that many teens didn’t know about any opportunities at all.
Today, many of the silos are gone. Teens from one end of our region routinely see what programs they could join at temples on the other end and teens with no temple affiliation are regularly invited to participate in Jewish life alongside their peers.
As we continue to grow and learn, we have the opportunity to re-examine the initial vision of better engaging teens in Jewish life, in order to effect their personal narrative and experience with Judaism pre-college.
