Recognizing Jewish Teen Leaders
THE DEREK M. SHECKMAN TEEN LEADERSHIP AWARD
From its inception, the Sheckman Award has sought to recognize teens in the Jewish community, challenging young leaders to understand the power, impact and importance they have in the life and future of the North Shore’s Jewish community. Sheckman Award recipients receive seed money towards a service project (up to $1000,) as well as guidance and support to develop and implement his/her own vision.
Each year in the spring, we accept nominations from teachers, rabbis, coaches and neighbors for North Shore teens in grades 10-11 who exemplify this outstanding leadership model. Chosen nominees receive a personal interview with a selection committee in which the candidates present their plans for a service project.
The award winner(s) are notified in April and are publicly announced at our annual J-Serve event during April Vacation week.
